311 (commonly verbalized as 'three-eleven') are an alternative rock brand from Nebraska led by vocalist Nick Hexum.
Taking the band name for the police code for 'indecent exposure' the band initially achieved success in the mid ninenties with their eponoymously titled album (also known as 'The Blue Album') followed by 'Tranisistor' in 1997 and 'Soundsystem' in 1999.
In 2004 the band scored a big hit with a version of The Cure's' 'Lovesong', due, in part, to its appearance on the soundtrack to the movie '50 First Dates'.
Whilst 311 are often categorized as an alt.rock band, theiur sound also incorporates elements for ska, reggae, hip-hop and funk.
