Madonna (full name: Madonna Louise Ciccone) is one of the biggest female recording artists in history. Hailing from Michigan she moved to New York in 1977 to begin a pop career.

The single 'Holiday' in 1983 was her breakthrough hit, followed by 'Lucky Star', 'Borderline' and 'Like A Virgin'.

Madonna's career endured throughout the eighties, nineties and into a new century, in part due to her talent of reinventing herself as an artist and her knack of generating controversy and publicity.

Madonna has featured in numerous films, including 'Desperately Seeking Susan', 'Body Of Evidence', 'A League Of Their Own' and the starring role in 'Evita' for which she won a Golden Globe award.

Madonna has been married twice, first to actor Sean Penn and then, in 2000, to English film director, Guy Ritchie.
